You are here:

The Team and Facilities:

The department consists of the Head of Department and two members of teaching staff.  It is located on the ground floor of M block, in 3 separate classrooms. The department has full use of a set of iPads to enhance the teaching and learning.

Key Stage 3:

At Key Stage 3 students study French as a Modern Foreign Language. The course offers students the opportunity to use their knowledge with confidence and competence and also to develop language skills. Students’ cultural awareness is increased by learning about French-speaking countries and people. The course offers a sound basis for further study at GCSE and beyond.

Key Stage 4:

Students choosing French at Key Stage 4 are given the opportunity to use the French language more independently, while learning a more complex range of expressions and building on their grammar.

The exam board used is Edexcel. The course is based on relevant topics such as Home and Local Area, School and Education, Work Experience, Holidays, Hobbies.

Students will be assessed on four external exams: Listening (25%), Speaking (25%), Reading (25%) and Writing (25%). The exams will be sat at the end of Year 11.

Students' learning will be enhanced by cultural visits to the Institut Français in Central London and also a cross-curricular visit to France itself.

Other languages

The department also facilitates GCSE, AS and A2 examinations in different mother tongue languages such as Arabic, Dutch, German, Portuguese and Urdu. All rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and we have iPads to support our learning. Students may use these resources for research and for producing presentations.
