Summer Term Tennis

You are here:

At the start of the summer term a group of Year 8 Wexham students participated in a personal development and leadership programme called ‘Beyond the Baseline’ run by the Tennis Association.

Louise Hunt, GB Paralympian and ambassador, was assigned as our tennis mentor and she did some great work with the students towards the goal of them independently planning and delivering a tennis tournament for a group of Year 4 students from a local primary school.

This programme was a huge success for the students involved and having completed the programme with a successful tournament it was clear to see how they had grown in confidence and self-belief.

Later in the summer term several of the students who had participated in the ‘Beyond the Baseline’ programme had the opportunity to develop their new-found confidence and love of tennis further, volunteering as leaders to help run a Slough School Sport Network (SSSN) infant tennis event at Salt Hill Park.

Finally, on Wednesday 6th July some Wexham students were privileged to go to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships at the All England Club and watch some fantastic elite sport, the highlight being the men’s quarter finals on Court 1. This was a great way to complete a very positive summer term of tennis and hopefully there will be more to come next summer.
